Kia Tupu e kia Ruperupe - te Uki Kuki Airani ki mua!
To Grow and to Flowerish - Cook Islands Future Generation!
Te Uki Ou-o-Te Puna Korero is a bilingual playgroup to under five year olds. Rarotongan and English languages are taught and spoken to the children. The basics of the alphabet, number counting, games and various fun-filled activities incorporated with traditional Cook Island style and Christian based foundations of storytelling is taught to the children. We are based at the above address.
Local visits to surrounding parks, libraries and free events are encouraged as part of the childrens outdoor activities.
The Puna Korero's aim is in building the foundational stages to helping young not just Cook Island children but any ethnic children transition through Te Poupou Apii e Rima or The 5 Pillars of Education:
By beginning education at the early Playgroup (grass-roots) stage of the child, it well prepares child for Primary School stage. And at the Primary and Intermediate School stage - the child will find it easy to cope with his or her school work. This is our primary focus - to make things easier for child to learn while at this starting level of his/her educational learning (primary school). Many of our Cook Island children struggles at this stage.
The ultimate goal then of Te Puna Korero playgroup is to pre-prepare our young children for primary school. We want them to be able to write their names on their first day at primary, spell some words, count and write numbers, be creative and be confident. All of these knowledge at a young age, we believe, empowers the child to escalate further educationally.
We also plan to walk with the parents as child heads through to intermediate school, then through to College. This is the most vulnerable yet important time of the child - the teenage stage!!! We believe that if and when skills are lacking here, the child will lack attendances at College. So please help us walk with you (parents) as a team.
At the moment many of our College leavers are either on the street or they're at home thinking about what they want to do in life - too late to be thinking about the careers! Career Planning should have been done before child landed at College. And us mentors, parents, caregivers should be behind child at this point in time encouraging, nurturing and supporting them all the way to Uni ...... and to their careers. PLEASE LET US MAKE THAT CHANGE NOW by signing up with us.
We want your child to land both of his/her feet at University or at any Tertiary education......whether tidying up NCEA credits (if they hadn't quite got the credits) it is still okay ....at least he/she is working towards that career path.
So please, parents out there (especially our Cook Islands parents) this is an important time for our young tamariki to make their way across to any Playgroups, Kindies, or ECEs in the New Year. Thank you ra.
