Wednesday 7th May 2014: Our 1st Auckland Central Branch Meeting
Taught the Foundations of Tuitui Tivaevae (embroidery sewing):
*Ideal types of fabric material discussed to use * Ideal shades and mixtures of colour combination discussed *Chose different contrasting shades of cottons to best match * Decided on the ideal patterns to use for beginners *Drawing stencil pattern design on paper 1st * Cutting pattern out from stencilled paper design * Applying stencil to fabric and cutting fabric straight from that stencil draft* Taught 'tacking' stitch to attach cut out pattern on to base fabric of material ** Taught basic embroidery stitch to highlight the chosen 'grape vine' style of tivaevae embroidery **Taught useful techniques of stitch appropriate to 'grape vine' style as well as ideal cotton length on needle to be able to match stream of shading to further accentuate the curves of the grapes.
Homework: Complete at least one bunch of grapes for next weeks class. If stuck, cut your cotton and move onto the next curve of your grape and assistance will be given at next weeks class .

*Taught the Foundations of Tuitui Tivaevae to 4 new members who joined our city branch * Remaining members continued with their 'grape vine' tuitui with additional choices of patterns to consider for future projects *Discussions on future events and options to fundraising as a group **Elections of office bearers conducted tonight transitioning to accounts and funding options and possibilities * With cold winter nights fast approaching, suggestions for snacks with tea & coffee to add went down very favourably *Another great night of gathering
